St. Patrick's Day 2013...

St. Patrick's Day

We started off the morning right when Matt made green eggs (and bacon) for breakfast.
And we had green mashed potatoes and lots of other green goodies at lunch at Mom's house.
(green mashed potatoes=St Patrick's Day for me :))
The kids helped me make and decorate the green Shamrock sugar cookies.
And none of us got pinched cause we were all sporting our green! :)

Sweet little moments...

Everyday hold sweet and funny little moments and unfortunately I am so quick to forget them. :(  But here are a few recent ones that I never want to forget...

Jade
-"Later, I want you or Mommy to read the Bible to Layla about sinning." Daddy: "Oh, really? You think she'll understand it?" Jade: "I don't know, but she needs it!"
-Referring to a picture in the hallway of Matt giving me a piggy back ride when back when we were engaged, Jade was asking about when it was taken. "When you first got married? Cause you weren't so heavy then."

Layla
-"Mom, this is how we doctor you.  Second, we give you a shot.  Third, we put you to sleep so you won't feel it.  And then we sew up your stomach to get the baby out and then sew it back."
-"I think we should name the baby Charlie (from Good Luck Charlie) or Foofa (from Yo Gabba Gabba).
-"To fight monsters, I bit them.  Do you do that, too?"
-"You know you can't watch this, right?"  Me: "Why's that?"  Layla: "Cause its for kids...(long pause) But you can watch it anyway."
-"I really like your pocket.  If I find something gorgeous, I will put it in there for you."

The other day I was scratching Matt's back because its practically his favorite thing in the world and Mason reaches over and starts gently scratching him, too.

This morning, while I was still asleep, Baby Girl was kicking Matthew in the back.  Just her way of saying, "Good morning, Daddy!"

Nate the Great's Pancakes...

On Friday, Jade started reading "Nate the Great" for school.  And in the back of the book, there are some fun extras to go along with the story, like a recipe for Nate's Pancakes (cause apparently he's a huge fan of pancakes and they help him think).  So, the munchkins helped me make them for dinner.  They were super easy and the kids LOVED them!

Nate's Pancake Recipe
(Taken from "Nate the Great" by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat)

Ingredients:
* 1 cup flour
* pinch of salt
* 2 T sugar
* 1 1/2 t baking powder
* 1 egg
* 2 T melted butter
* 1 1/2 c milk
* syrup

Mix together flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder.
Add the egg, melted butter, and milk.  Stir until just mixed together (lumps are ok).
Cook over medium heat.
Top with syrup or desired toppings.
Eat (and think deep thoughts).
Serves one hungry detective, with leftovers for his dog.

We will definitely be making them again since they are so cheap and easy to make and such a big hit with the kids.  And fyi, following the recipe made for a thinner pancake than I am used to, but that just meant that the kids ate twice as many.  We doubled the recipe and the kids and I all got our fill with some leftover.
